The Egyptian Social Data Project website is an open platform for social data in the Egyptian context. The site offers alternative archives and data sets, descriptive statistics, interactive maps and data visualizations. Given that the site is primarily concerned with social issues, it publishes quantitative and qualitative data on

1. Contemporary social and criminal phenomena, issues and situations in the Egyptian context at the micro, intermediate and macro levels (see the publications published by the “Social Indicators” program)

2. Controversial narratives and the history of social change and political events in modern Egypt – especially in the twentieth century and beyond (see publications by the Social Documentation Programme)

3. Contemporary socio-political phenomena, issues and conditions in the Arab region, and comparative perspectives between Arab societies undergoing political and social changes (see the publications published by the “Regional Files” program)

In addition, the site contains a digital repository of archives “Archival Repository” that includes social, political, cultural, linguistic, historical, legal, visual and text archives, databases, indexes, references and catalogs produced by the Archives Unit of the Institute (see publications published by the “Archive” unit).

The Institute operates, publishes and updates the website, and as such is the only publishing platform for the Institute’s knowledge products. The site aspires to become an open source, available in Arabic and English, and searchable by keywords, indispensable to researchers, academics, bibliographers, archivists, statisticians, data miners, archivists, statisticians, activists, journalists, civil society professionals and the general public.
